Lea guldditte hestelund
Lea Guldditte is a visual artist educated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, 2015, DK, and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, 2012 - 2013, DE. Hestelund often creates physical fictions unfolded in installations and interdisciplinary collaborations, where the sculptural body can be literature, scent or music. Through an ongoing critique of western culture's long-standing idealization of specific gender and body types, initiated with Self-portrait as Discobolus, Hestelund has developed over the past decade, giving way to the introduction of another body: a caregiving body. Often marginalized in the history of Western art and Culture, this body is giving both form and voice in Hestelund's work with which to express its vulnerability. Motherhood and experience of bodily monstrosity, vulnerability and interconnectedness now serve as a lens through which to examine the body as a cultural zone of conflict.
Lea Guldditte Hestelund was born in 1983 in Esbjerg and lives in Copenhagen.
She graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 and studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2012 to 2013.
