Ruth campau

Ruth Campau (born February 4, 1955) is a visual artist who lives and works in Copenhagen. She has studied Art History at Copenhagen Open University and is a member of Kunstnersamfundet (The Artists' Society) and the artist association Grønningen, where she also serves on the board. Additionally, she has been a member of the Academy Council and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, as well as a board member at O-Overgaden, Institute for Contemporary Art.

Ruth Campau works with painting in an expanded field, focusing on how her works interact with their surroundings. Her paintings are created through long, concentrated brushstrokes that capture the artist's movement in the paint. The works can be understood as fragments of a larger, infinite painting, while also referencing the painterly act and the body that created them. Her works often take the form of large installations, immersive environments, or site-specific projects.

She has exhibited her works both nationally and internationally at institutions such as ARoS, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, Bornholm Art Museum, KØS Museum of Art in Public Spaces, Randers Art Museum, Esbjerg Art Museum, Fuglsang Art Museum, HEART Museum of Modern Art, Kunstforeningen Gl Strand, PS Projectspace in Amsterdam, Deutscher Künstlerbund in Berlin, and Schloss Biesdorf in Berlin.

She has created numerous public art commissions, including works for Copenhagen Airport, Hvidovre Hospital, Klostertorvet in Aarhus, Randers Art Museum, the Psychiatric Hospital in Borås, Sweden, VUC in Vejle, Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, the Civil Affairs Agency in Copenhagen, the Danish Patent and Trademark Office in Tåstrup, a residential complex near Wannsee in Berlin, and Aalborg University Campus Esbjerg.

She has collaborated with several renowned architects, including C.F. Møller Architects in connection with the construction of the Nordlyset residential complex at Amerika Plads in Copenhagen. Nordlyset was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2006.

Ruth Campau has also worked as a curator for several projects, including the long-running exhibition project Paintbox with visual artist Michael Mørk.

Ruth Campau is represented by 2112 in Copenhagen, Galleri DGV in Svendborg, Galerie Gebr. Lehmann in Dresden, Feldbusch Wiesner Rudolph Galerie in Berlin, and Galerie Hartwich in Rügen
