Jeannette Ehlers

Jeannette Ehlers is a Copenhagen-based artist of Danish and Trinidadian descent whose practice takes shape experimentally across photography, video, installation, sculpture and performance. She graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2006.

Ehlers’ work often makes use of self-representation and image manipulation to bring about decolonial hauntings and disruptions. These manifestations attend to the material and affective afterlives of Denmark’s colonial impact in the Caribbean and participation in the Transatlantic Slave Trade—realities that have all too often been rendered forgettable by dominant history-writing.

Ehlers insists on the possibility for empowerment and healing in her art, honouring legacies of resistance in the African diaspora. She merges the historical, the collective and the rebellious with the familial, the bodily and the poetic.

She has exhibited internationally at institutions and exhibitions including Prospect 6 in New Orleans, the 15th Havana Biennial, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, MAAT Lisbon, Centre Pompidou-Metz, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, the Art Gallery of Ontario and SMK – The National Gallery of Denmark. She is currently a practice-based PhD fellow at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Copenhagen (2025–2028) and is the co-creator of the public sculpture project I Am Queen Mary (2018).

La Vaughn Belle

La Vaughn Belle is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, installation, photography, writing, video and public interventions. Exploring the material culture of coloniality, she creates narratives from historical fragments and silences, making visible what has been unremembered.

Belle has exhibited throughout the Caribbean, the USA and Europe, including at Museo del Barrio, Kunsthal Charlottenborg and the National Nordic Museum. She is the co-creator of I Am Queen Mary, a groundbreaking public monument confronting Danish colonial amnesia while commemorating legacies of resistance in the former Danish West Indies.

Belle holds an MFA from the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and an MA and BA from Columbia University. Her studio is based in the Virgin Islands.

David Berg

David Berg was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix. Ever since he can remember, he has had an appreciation for art and a respect for artists. Although he had never truly found a medium to work in, he always dreamed of creating art. It wasn't until he experienced a serious physical injury during his studies in the United States that a medium found him. To distract himself from the physical pain and the change in his daily life, a good friend advised him to pick up a camera. He has not put it down since. As he started to explore this new way to express himself, his friends would see his work and describe it in a way that made him feel like an artist. From these experiences, photography became a very important part of his life. He wanted to improve and learn more about this skill, so he left the school he was attending and transferred to the Center for Digital Imaging and Arts at Boston University. From CDIA, he gained certification in photography. David has been exhibiting his work for over a decade and has been featured in many shows that center on the African diaspora and the effects of colonialism.
